What started off as a rivalry and I might come close to saying a mentor. Jagjit singhji was more than a role model . He came after Abraham Lincoln in my diary of iconic models. His ghazals had enthralled almost the generation. Long ago I remember my memory jigged there used to be Indian tradition of meeting people after sharing sweets, but I could not learn of anybody who remembered it. His song neem ka ped will be one of my favorites.
